KANSAS CITY, Kan. — While many children went home from school today with a backpack full of papers and books, others brought home something much more important — food.
Every Friday, volunteers at a It Is Written Ministries located in KCK  fills backpacks with food and toiletries, items that bridge the gap over the weekend when students don’t get hot meals in the school cafeteria.

“The needs for high school kids are much different. In addition to food care kits, feminine products, toothpaste, things they need to keep themselves clean,” said one volunteer.

“Let’s face it, every child you help may be a kid that doesn’t hit you in the head and rob you,” said Jacquie Hadnot, program coordinator. “You’ve given them hope.”
Every Friday, the backpacks are dropped off at elementary schools throughout Kansas City, Kan. The kids bring them back on Monday and they get refilled for the next weekend.
All of the supplies are packed with private donations and asistance from The Harvesters Food Network. To help with the Stride Back Pack Program for Homeless Teens & Children, contact Dr. Jacquie Hadnot at 913-281-4463.
